Dave Robertson

Dave leads this department, a unit of Student Development, which includes the Plemmons Student Union, Legends, the Appalachian Popular Programming Society (A.P.P.S.) and Appalachian and the Community Together (A.C.T.).

Dave specializes in facilitating the development of vision, mission and goals for each division of Student Programs. He co-advises and trains the Student Programming organization (A.P.P.S.), and provides staff and leadership training, development, evaluation and continuous improvement. He oversees all equipment and furnishings purchasing and budget management, policy development, facility maintenance and staff selection and hiring. He coordinates efforts related to making the Union and Legends more sustainable and green facilities. He chairs the task force to plan the new Center for Student Excellence, to be built beginning in 2010. Dave serves on numerous university committees, including the University Sustainability Council. He is a LEED Accredited Professional. He is an expert in Jungian personality types and does frequent staff development workshops utilizing the MBTI to enhance teamwork. Dave is an active member of the Association of College Unions-International (ACUI); the United States Green Building Council (USGBC); and the Association for Psychological Type-International (APT). He is the co-editor of the book, "Designing and Building College Unions to Meet the Needs of the 21st Century", published by ACUI. Jenny works with various aspects within the Deptartment of Student Programs. Jenny is part of the Operations Staff, with a focus on building reservations and special events, policy development, the Greenbriar theater, the Looking Glass Gallery, and general overall usage. As part of the ACT team, Jenny is particularly focused on co-curricular student volunteerism, ACT alumni relations, and the ACT endowment. She also works with student leadership training and professional staff training for the Dept.

Randy manages Legends, the Campus Social Center designed for dances, comedy and live bands. Randy advises the A.P.P.S. Concert Council, bringing big name music and comedy shows to ASU, usually in Varsity Gym or Farthing Auditorium. Randy also advises A.P.P. S. Stage Shows, showcasing up and coming regional bands and comedians in Legends. Randy selects biweekly entertainment for the Music at the Cascades series and coordinates Summer Social Programs. 262-3032

Jana advises and trains the Student Programming board the Appalachian
Popular Programming Society (A.P.P.S.), specifically the Executive Board and
the Special Events Council. She oversees the A.P.P.S.' Graduate Assistants
providing leadership training, development, and evaluation. Jana also heads
the homecoming committee and plans  the annual a cappella competition
Accapellageddon. She is an active member of the National Association of
Campus Activities (NACA). She is the co-author of "Collaborations and
Sponsorships: Academic, Community and Student Organization Outreach"
published in the May 2011 Campus Activities Programming magazine published by NACA. She holds a bachelor's degree in English from McMurry University (TX) and a master's degree in higher education from Texas Tech University. 262-3032

Paul is responsible for all night-time Student Union operations including room set-ups, housekeeping and social event staffing and supervision. He is responsible for building security. Paul provides evening supervision for all student staff and assists with student staff training programs. 262-3032

Kate works to connect students with the local community through individual and group projects, as well as one-time service events such as MLK Challenge, Dance Marathon, and more. Kate also oversees ACT's Alternative Spring Break (ASB) program, in addition to various awareness programs to highlight social and environmental issues. 262-3032

Christine supervises the Plemmons info desk which provides building and campus event information. She coordinates ticket sales for A.P.P.S. and Cultural Affairs events. She manages the student directory information service. 262-3030.

David assists students, faculty and staff with the planning of events through management of space and equipment reservations for the Plemmons Student Union, Legends, the Amphitheater, Durham Park, Sanford Mall and the Duckpond Field.

Abby is a Boone native who, after graduating from Wake Forest in 2010 with a BA in Theatre, has returned to the mountains to complete a master's in Gerontology. She works with ACT as the Graduate Assistant of Community Partnerships and loves working with Todd and babysitting his kids.

Crystal co-coordinates the ACT Faculty Fellows workshops and SL/CBR Faculty Workshop series, assisting with faculty development and logistics. She assists with all major ACT-sponsored events and co-coordinates the ACT Service-Learning Program in addition to co-advising the Student Service-Learning Task Force. She also works toward promoting service-learning and community-based research to faculty and students. Currently, she is working on her second Masters Degree in College Student Development.

Eric received his B.A. at Kalamazoo College in 2010 where he was a double major in Studio Art & Anthropology/Sociology. He is currently working on his Masters in College Student Development here at the Appalachian State University. Eric advises the Council for Cultural Awareness, one of the seven councils in APPS. He and CCA work hard to meet the diverse social and cultural needs of the minority students at ASU.
